Dr Tucker became involved in the study, investigation and management of female urinary incontinence and other disorders of the lower urinary tract in 1978 while doing Post-graduate work in the UK.

This later  involved establishing the Urogynaecology Service for the Dundee Teaching Hospitals in Scotland.

Dr Tucker returned to Adelaide in 1981 to set up a similar service at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and then in 1982 set up one of Australia’s first private Urodynamic investigation units.

In 1985, Dr Tucker was seconded with Drs Peter Glenning [Vic] & James Gibson [NSW], by the Royal Australian College Of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists to establish the Subspecialty of Urogynaecology.

This was achieved and when formally recognized, was a world first.

The importance of continued work and research in this area may best be understood with the realisation that there are approx 3.8 million Australians suffering from incontinence.

Dr Tucker has special a interest in the neuromodulation of bladder function has been a  pioneer in Australia and world authority in this field.

At best , incontinence is socially embarrassing: at worst, totally disabling.

Dr Tucker and his staff at ADELAIDE SPECIALIST INCONTINENCE SERVICES are dedicated to providing highly skilled yet very personal investigation and management of disorders of micturition in the female.

Apart from referrals from GP’s, Dr Tucker provides a tertiary referral service for other Gynaecologists and Urologists, providing them with assistance with diagnosis, management strategies and highly specialised treatment for their patients.

IMPORTANT NEWS:

There are and have been several instances in South Australia of Gynaecologists calling themselves UROGYNAECOLOGISTS when they ARE NOT CERTIFIED UROGYNAECOLOGISTS.

You are advised to ensure that any Gynaecologist claiming to be a Urogynaecologist has the appropriate CU qualification [Certified Urogynaecologist] – Certified by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
